The island of Mayaguana is the most southeasterly island of the archipelago nation of the Bahamas. It is located approximately three hundred miles south of the island of New Providence on which the capital of the Bahamas, Nassau is situated.

There are three scheduled flights operated on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays by the national flag carrier, Bahamasair. For those whose schedule is less hectic, LeAir Charter is available for your convenience. For the more adventurous travelers, There is the weekly mailboat (ferry) service available.

Mayaguana has a population of approximately four hundred (400) residents, who are very pleasant and friendly. The island, which has maintained much of its quaintness, is virtually crime free, and has a very quiet and laid back atmosphere.

The Baycaner Beach Resort is located in the settlement of Pirate's Well Mayaguana. In the center of the settlement is a well That was dug by Pirates that onced roamed the waters of The Bahamas, hence the name of the settlement "Pirate's Well".

Clear pristine waters that are home to an abundance of marine life, which include shellfish as well as deep and shallow water sportfish, surround the island. Our unspoiled reefs that are lively and colorful have and continue to capture the attention of both avid as well as casual divers.

In walking distance from the resort you can stalk the prized twenty (20) to twenty-five (25) pounder that will give the passionate bonefisher the thrill of their life. Just a short distance away is the habitat and feeding ground of our National Bird the Flamingo, who will accompany those with a love for nature for the entire day.
